Finally, someone else who appreciates M*A*S*H
How can someone not appreciate M*A*S*H?
They must be unpatriotic and an enemy combatant...
I was stationed in Korea in the early 80's and the commanding general of the 8th Army made a bid deal of getting the last TV episode to play on AFN. It felt odd to be a soldier in Korea watching a show about the Korean War 30 years after the fact. (and to be an Orwellian whitey "occupier" on some level too.)
The tv show lasted much longer than the Korean War...it was a parody on the Vietnam War...and the tv show was a spin off of one of my forementioned favorite movies...
People use the word "surreal" too much...so I will use the term "hyper-realism" instead...
Did the yellow people assimiliate? If not, they better be careful, GW is watching...
When I was in the military(90-93), Beavis and Butthead premiered...there are parallels...
My favorite thing about the movie, and about Altman, is the overlapping dialogue...which adds to that sense of hyperrealism you talk about. That's how people talk.
I agree about the overlapping dialogue, great stuff.....M*A*S*H was one of my favorite shows, and since I was born in '63, it fit in neatly with my newly awakened sense of humor (along with the old MAD's and National Lampoons of the early 70's).
hmmmm, four places I would rather be... the dog park, my parents warm bed, on a 2.5 mile walk and oh yeah did I mention my parents warm bed?
