Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving...

...but not in the pilgrim tradition...not in the Victorian tradition...but in the modern sense...family and friends getting together for 1 of 2 days in a year(the second being X-mas) and sharing a meal, laughter, memories, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and football..it is a day of family traditions...

So "Happy Family & Friends Day"...hopefully that is something to be "thankful" for...

  • James Madison (1751-1836)
"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution."
"In no instance have . . . the churches been guardians of the liberties of the people."
"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise.
  • Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) Lincoln in a letter to Judge J.S. "O Lord our God, help us tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with their little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it . . ."
  • Thomas Edison (1847-1931)

Dogs do not ritually urinate in the hope of persuading heaven to do the same and send down rain. Asses do not bray a liturgy to cloudless skies. Nor do cats attempt, by abstinence from cat's meat, to wheedle the feline spirits into benevolence. Only man behaves with such gratuitous folly. It is the price he has to pay for being intelligent but not, as yet, quite intelligent enough."
  • George Orwell (1903-1950)
  • John Chancellor (1927-1996)
Jack Thomas wrote in the Boston Globe, ...asked Chancellor whether he feared death to which he replied "not as much as I would have thought..." You scored as Existentialism.
Your life is guided by the concept of Existentialism:
You choose the meaning and purpose of your life.

Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world,
he is responsible for everything he does.
It is up to you to give [life] a meaning.

--Jean-Paul Sartre

It is man's natural sickness to believe that he possesses the Truth.
